Would I need a different video card?

I'm currently running a Dell U2715H (2560x1440) and a two HP LP2475w (1920x1200) displays.

They're connected to a ATI HD 5770 (I'm not playing games), the Dell via DisplayPort and the HPs via DVI. This has worked well for a while now (I was previously running with three HP LP2475w displays).

I'm thinking about replacing the two HPs with another two Dell U2715H displays (or similar).

I'm just wondering if this would also require a video card replacement? Can I run three U2715H displays at native resolution from a ATI HD 5770?

With the U2715H I'm limited to DisplayPort and HDMI. It's easy enough to physically convert from DVI to HDMI but I'm not sure about the supported resolution.

I need to dig into this deeper, but any insight would be appreciated.

Dual link DVI by itself is enough for 2560x1440@60Hz. But the last time I checked, at least all the passive HDMI>DVI converters are limited by the HDMI's single-link interface. IIRC, this is because HDMI generations focused on increasing the clock speed, whereas dual link DVI increased bandwidth, by doubling the data lines. So the latter generations are not directly compatible with each other.

But, I also found an exception to the rule:

"Now some strange things may happen depending on the hardware inside the screen/video cards. I had a monitor with an HDMI input and used a DVI single link to HDMI adapter(passive) and the video card recognized it was HDMI and allowed 2560 x 1440 by pushing the link speed as needed.

If the screen was so lucky to actually be able to take a higher link speed a passive adapter would work, but I would not bet any money on it. So if you have a friend with such a cable, you may want to try it to see what it does."

If this doesn't work, you should probably look into converting DVI to DisplayPort. That MIGHT work. In other words, use DVI>DP, DVI>DP, DP>DP. Then again, I just found some discouraging opinions for that, as well:

So you might still have to delve into active converters. Which usually cost a lot of money, I think.
