Would I notice a difference?

I have been thinking of upgrading my CPU for ages now as the current one is probably the longest I have ever kept the same CPU!

I have an original Conroe (can't remember the model but stock is 2.66Ghz) running at 3.2GHz. Would I see a big difference in upgrading to a Wolfdale 3.16 with the extra cache or am I wasting my cash?

E6700? It'd be a waste in the real world unless you have money to burn.

Cash part is up to you.

1) Faster mhz stock and OC.

2) Faster due to more Cache

3) Cooler there for can have quieter Cooling.

Etc etc.

For some real world differences spend the money getting up to 4GB of ram or upgrading the gfx

if you spend more than 125 pounds (price of OEM Q6600), and dont get a quad core, your either, 1) insane, 2) serious over clocker who does it for the sake of it.

also, if you buy a Q6700 over the Q6600 your totally insane

basically make sure its a quad core and not pre-overclocked

Asus P5B with latest bios, 2Gb corsair, 8800GTX.

My other question was going to be about the best ram for a quad core if I'm not overclocking and want 4Gb.

I just can't beleive how long I've had the same CPU....I used to change them at least twice a year!

Any of the 2x2gb PC2-6400 kits will suffice for a Q6600 at stock speeds.

Put it up at auction as a Buy It Now for as much as you can get away with then put the difference towards a shiny new Quad Q9450

Well there's certainly going to be price drops in the next couple of months.

But so far they've only been confirmed as happening in Q3, and that's any time between 1st July and 30th September.

Might be worth waiting a week or so as there might be a definite date by then be it the 1st July or later. Then decide from there.
