Would I notice any difference ?

Get yourself on Steam; there are a load of cheap non-violent games like Braid, Portal, i-fluid, Audiosurf etc. that are cheap and pretty fun.
 
I am just waiting till this evening when my internet connection gets better before trying to download Portal - I am in the wastelands of south Spain and my internet is via a microwave system - at best we get 256, and often, when the weather is less than perfect, it drops so far that getting from one page to the next takes 3-5 minutes.. Then we also loose internet completley for weeks on end in the summer...
Remember that, all you with your fancy superfast connections..!

Forgot to say, we also pay 45 euros a month for this wonderful service - last summer we had nothing for 7 weeks..!
 
Portal comes on the Orange Box from Valve. You could order this, and it does contain a number of games. Although the others are FPS games. So not suitable for you.

Still if you can get the Orange box cheap, it is a good way of getting Portal without downloading it.

gutted for you mate, paying 45 euro for that... cant be nice.
 
I also forgot to say that we have no land line, no mobile signal and the road to our place gets washed away every time it rains, leaving us cut off totally !!
That said, I can often sunbathe in January, and we don't need to lock the doors when we go out..

I think's it's more a case of the games I play rather than there not being any without violence. I've an 11 week old so at the minute I'm not getting much gaming time (although I'm sure you'll agree it's very worth it).
 
Well congratulations, and enjoy every moment with your baby - I wouldn't be here if not for mine - they have changed my life so much, and all for the better !
Gaming can come later - there is always later !
