Would I see a huge difference?

I know people get sick of these "should I upgrade" threads but I could really do with some opinions and advice!

I have a Q9450 @ 3.2Ghz CP Asus P5B and 4Gb ram -Gforce 275 -Monitor 1920x 1200

I was going to upgrade the whole system as the mobo is nearly three years old and the i970 systems seem very tempting.
Regardless of the money issue would the following upgrade be worth it for gaming and general office stuff?

OVERCLOCKED* Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) 2.66Ghz @ 3.8GHz Max / Gigabyte EX58-UD5 Intel X58 Motherboard / Patriot Viper 6GB DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz DDR3 Bundle

It's more the hassle of a complete rebuild than the money....what you think?
Or should I get a Radeon 5870?

If you have the money then go for it :)

I my self would like to go i7 atm but i have to say to my self my rig is fine atm and i don't really need it :D

I think that too many people get caught with the hype, in that they "think" they have to have more modern tech to "cut-it" As for "general office stuff?" then your system is seriously overkill. Even for gaming, a 9450 @3.2 should be sufficient, if playing at high resolutions.

I have a quad Extreme 9650, and there is "some" difference when i play games @stock, versus an overclock, but it isn't much..

Go for a 5870! (or wait for the X2 version?)

if you feel the need go for it ,but for general office stuff no need
if your not happy with the settings/frame rates in games then an upgrade would help

I will stugle on with my Q6600 at 3.3Ghz and 280GTX till it starts to have problems
playing what I want it to play. Then in 6 or 12 months time when i5 or i7 have matured
and the price has settled AND hopfully the Q6600/ 920 will be replaced by a new king of the hill chip as well :)
If it aint broke why fix it :) unless money is no object.

Im sure we have met in the boat the other day??? :D LOl anyways im the same man. You need to weigh up "do you really need it". I often feel i need to upgrade when I really dont. But in your case it is a nice upgrade.

this.

you will see more difference in gaming if you ge a 5870 or 5870x2. if you have the money and like messing with new tech get both if you can only afford 1 get the 5870/x2. edit just realised you have a 275 gtx - i dont think even the 5870 would be enough of an improvement for the money id deffinitly wait for the 5870x2!

I'm pondering the exact question, for usage purposes the consensus here seems to be a no for myself.

Exactly the same here. I play a lot of cpu dependant games like source games and having an overclocked i7 i would hope will mean i'll be able to get +100fps on 50 man css servers and 32 man tf2 servers. My q9550 doesn't seem to cut it for some reason.
