I've currently imported my ram from my amd system which is 4 x 2gb sticks at 1333mhz but i was wondering if theres any point in going for higher speed ram i.e. 1600mhz ram instead. I know it's not a lot of money because DDR3 is just so cheap at the moment but if i can save that £40 then i will and spend it on an SSD instead.

so is it worth getting 1600mhz+ ram going from 1333mhz?

Realistically, no you won't notice a difference, and 8GB is plenty. 4 sticks vs 2 used to limit overclocks somewhat though I'm not sure if that is still the case

3570K have really strong IMC so it seems a shame not to tap into any of that speed with some decent RAM. 2 x 4gb 2133mhz is the way to go if your after real improvements but 1600mhz for this processor is bare minimum, otherwise your chocking it with lack of bandwidth.

Will OP notice the difference though, ya know, with his eyes?

Anyhow, lower speed RAM sometimes has tighter timings, and what's to stop you trying to overclocks it?

Ah okay, so less occupied slots = more overclocking ability for cpu and memory?

Is there XMP available for 2133mhz ram? I hate trying to overclock ram because a lot of the time it never goes right!

That's what im after, real world differences not benchmarking stuff. My Current ram is crucial generic ram which has run fine for nearly 3 years now but i've never tried to overclock it... dont think i even should tbh lol

You decide if it is worth the investment, but a little sneek preview for you DDR3-1600 is the sweet spot for both Ivy and Sandy Bridge. You asked will you notice a difference from DDR3-1333 to anything higher...Not really, not in everyday/real world use of the computer, even gaming does not benefit anything noticable from better RAM on these platforms. If you are encoding video or doing massive number crunching then yes you will notice some difference.

Net result depends if you are happy to take an imperceptible hit in performance or a ~£40 financial hit.

I'd bung the extra cash toward an SSD or a couple of cases of beer even :D

A 120gb ssd would be nice, at leadt i would notice the speed increase and performance.

I wouldnt mind the cosmetic upgrade aswel as bare ram
Looks awful.
