Would it be heart over head? DB7

I'm thinking in advance and I'm also thinking out loud.

Of all the "super cars" out there the Aston Martin's are one of my favourites.
Why?
I just like their styling, their "British feel".
And above all else - being a bigger chap I'd actually be able to get in one :)

Many Aston's are now considered classics - so high value and not something I'll be affording in a hurry.
Most of the others are too new and again command high prices.
After reading an article on the web over the weekend I find that the DB7 is in the middle.
Old enough to see a drop in price yet not old enough to command "classic status" prices.
So prices honestly do start at around the £15k mark with £20k getting you a very nice example indeed.

But would this just be heart ruling the head?
They aren't going to be cheap to run - fuel and servicing costs.
But it would be an Aston and maybe, keep it for a long time and it will become a classic while you own it - possibly not actually lose any money on it?

As I said above I'm just thinking out loud.
I know there would be numerous more "sensible" options for that kind of money.
I currently own an Octy vRS which I was planning on changing soon - initial plans was for the Octy Mk2.5

So, any other OcUK'ers own an Aston, or have owned one?
What's your feeling on the DB7 - a future classic?

Not sure if the DB7 will gain value, Aston seemed to produce these in relatively large numbers and as far as Astons go its the minger of the bunch (lagonda aside).

I may not gain money but i cant see you loosing a large ammount of money

the brand prestige means it will never be found in the classifieds at <10k like say an m3 would.

I was considering a V12 DB7 before I bought my SL500. I can't remember what swayed my decision. I think, as I was only looking to run one car, reliability came into it - I'm not saying an Aston is fundamentally unreliable, but I think in order for it to BE reliable, maintenance bills are high.

These cars are not a logical decision, and may cost MANY thousands of pounds a year just to keep on the road. If you appreciate this, then buy one with your heart, and you'll really enjoy it!

The Honest John website has some good info about what to look out for, and (willing to be corrected here) Autocar had a good article about a year ago called something along the lines of "bargain GTs for under £20k"

Massive running costs if they go wrong but lovely cars.

Cant see them going up in value, they have probably bottomed out depreciation wise though.

You don't buy a car like that with your head! As said, running costs can be eye watering to say the least

At one stage I set myself the goal of getting a DBS... Put that on the back burner for the while ;)
