I always wished i could open MSN windows when I was playing on WoW years ago.

And now Im messing about on LOTRO it would be cool if there was addons that could link them.

Im suprised it aint been done really. Although im guessing licenses would be needed from MS?

Can't you just run it in a maximised window, that way you can see your taskbar still.

Windowed mode is the easiest option, but Xfire or using the Steam community message system could be other choices, especially if you play the game in fullscreen and your MSN contacts are mainly fellow gaming friends.

WoW is easily supported on Xfire, you don't have to worry about that.

As for getting it to work on Steam, just add a shortcut to the WoW executable game file and bind two keyboard keys for the "Enable Steam Community In-game". The great thing about the Steam's friends chat system is that it can work on pretty much any non-Steam game.

Actually, it runs in normal full-screen, it just lets you alt-tab instantly and display windows over the game. If you put MSN or your media player on 'always on top' mode you can watch videos or chat while you play while still running it full screen.

Xfire is kinda what you want. You'll need to get all your friends to install and run it, but it supports in-game chatting in loads of games, similar to the steam chat, but supports way more games. Not perfect, but as mentioned the only other option would be to run windowed mode (which is what I do),
