No, the 2500k is a great chip.
Not silly at all. They're very close with 2500k's seemingly clocking better and being cheaper while 3570k's having PCIe and being able to fully use Lucid virtu which currently looks broken. There's also a 501% performance increase for Ib so there isn't really a better CPU of the two.

If the price is similar I think for most users would be better served by the 3570k.

Yes, those wanting 5ghz or people who spend more time overclocking / benching than gaming /computing will probably prefer playing with Sandy.
