Hi,
I might be upgrading my talk talk to 24Meg for an extra £4 a month.
I pay £22.48 for free calls and 8meg broadband.
And it will be £26.48 a mouth if i upgrade.

would i really notice a huge difference. and would my netgear modem router DG834G V3 support that speed. if not, what would you recomend ?

I was told by talk talk, i need a wireless 'N' router,not a G wireless router?

Thanks for you're help :)

Oh really lol well he was in india lol...
That what difference would there be if i had the 'N' router ?
And i see a huge difference in speed ?

Cheers..

+1

802.11G is easily good for 24Mb/s over wireless, N can give you more than that, but your internet will bottom out before the wireless does.

would check to see if you are likely to get anymore speed tho - no point in paying more if you've not a line capable of giving a fast speed.

They did check to see if i could get this speed. and they said i could.
So worth going for then ?

Cheers.

You should check for yourself. Your router will give ADSL stats, and it would hardly be unknown for a company to lie to get extra money out of you...

Hi, did a check. and yes it will allow 24 meg.
So worth to go ahead with it then ?

What do you mean by ADSL stats! ?
Cheers

I'm not 100% sure if it is on all packages, but talktalk are giving the "turbo boost" ( removes the 8 meg cap) free now (used to cost £4 extra).

This is done automatically if you are syncing @ the full 8 meg. So not only don't you need a new router you also shouldn't be paying for the boost (this might be package dependant).

turbo boost. what extra is that ment to give.. ? should i ask then about that then ?

turbo boost is just talktalks way of saying they have removed your cap @ 8 meg too whatever you can sync at. Basically the same thing they offered you. The point of the post was that you should get it free not be paying for it. But as I said I'm unsure if that works out on all packages, I know you get it free with there essentials and pro. I think the only way not to be on one of these packages now is if you have a really old package.

On the talktalk site > my account > phone > manage my services it lists boosts you can apply and turbo boost should be there and have 'free' next too it. But again you shouldn't need to pay for this.

Ok cool. i'll have to look in to that. what speed are you getting now?
I'm on the old tariff from over 3 years ago.

Thanks for that info tho :)

I found the turbo boost for the net :). but the Anytime Calls Boost- Chat whenever you like with unlimited landline calls day or night,
is already ticked, saying £4 in total a month extra at the bottom on the page. but i already get unlimited landline calls? when i untick this, it of course goes to £0.
but then says, By removing this boost, you will be charged for daytime UK calls ? so if i untick this and submit the turbo boost for the net. would they stop my unlimited landline calls? they confuse the heck out of me lol ?

Cheers mate.

To find out your ADSL stats go to this page. http://192.168.0.1

On the bottom of the router status page click 'show statistics' and post the downstream attenuation, noise margin and connection speed.

This will help give a more accurate idea of what speed you can get.

Hi, you mean this.. whats it all mean lol

Cheers :)

Yeah, I don't know if you did but you should leave the unlimted call plan checked if you want it.

Glad to hear you got the turbo boost free, instead of paying the £4.

As a side note you might be able to get even faster speeds by asking for a profile change on the members forums. By default it puts you on the mid level stable one, but if your line can handle it the talktalk staff will be able to set it too a faster (but maybe not as stable) profile.

Hi mate. you don't know of any uk talktalk number do you ? as i always get someone across sea's and we don't seem to understand eachother. 1 women was so dam rude it was unreal  i always payed from the old contract, free calls to 36 other countrys, free uk call. all for £22.48. now there saying if i want the free calls to 36 other countrys, i have to pay an etc £4
