As title really. Long story but we've been with (now) Orange since it was Freeserve, then Wanadoo, then Orange. During one of these switchovers my Dad (who's name it is all in) moved out so it's been pretty much ignored. I did once enquire about getting our line upgraded but at that point it was Wanadoo and they wanted to charge us for the upgrade. We have been in the process of selling/moving house for a long time so i didnt really see the point. We are currently still paying £27.99/month for a 512 connection which obviously is not good at all. My mum never wanted to bring it up with my Dad as he's still paying it (lol).

Aaaaanyway, i was informed that most ISPs are doing free upgrades nowadays, so i spent an hour digging up the account information and logged into the Orange website. They are doing free upgrades and we seem to be eligible for 8Mb, but they want to tie us in to another 12 month contract. We can't do this as we are going to be moving very soon indeed. When we move i want to sort my Mum out with a different/decent ISP so moving the account over to a new house is not what i want to do.

Anyway, thats a long story. Essentially what i want to do is ring Orange and persuade them to upgrade us without tying us into another 12 months. Whats the best way of going about this? Obviously stressing that we've been paying over-the-odds for a below-par connection for many many months will help -- but what should i say to persuade them that i shouldnt be forced into another 12 months with them?

I know a lot of you people have a good idea of how to get things out of these companies, any advice would be great!

Stick with your 512 until you move house would be my suggestion mate. You aren't going to get out of a 12 month contract I wouldn't imagine.

My pipex is still 1mb and the cost of that in ye olde times was 23.44 a month. My friend now pays 24.99 for 8mb. For me to get 8mb - 1 year contract. Sucks but thats how it is :(

Basically not worth the agro, they almost certainly won't budge on the 12 month contract and even if they did if you're moving that soon does it matter ? They are also likley to ask to speak to the account holder as they are making a significant change to the account (12 month contract) and i'd imagine that would pose a problem without some iffy actions on your part...
