Picked up a dell inspiron 620, didn’t know the i3 model at time, but was the main buying point anyways.

going to be used as general, but the ability to run minecraft is going to be a focal point, I don’t know if there’s a difference in versions, but it’s the windows 10/Xbox one.

it’s a standard system apart from 3gb ram not 4 and will need a gpu, but I need to know if the i3 would perform well enough before deciding if whatever i5 upgrade options are worth it? Maxing the game isn’t a concern and the screen isn’t hd. Ideally looking to ram and gpu upgrade only if I can help it.

Minecraft needs a decent cpu and soon will be updated to support ray tracing but appart from that will run on mostly anything.

Unlike most games, Minecraft is more dependent on your CPU than your GPU. That means that the power of your CPU has a greatest impact on your computer’s performance, and your CPU will often be the component limiting your FPS.

In fact, Minecraft is so easy on GPUs that you don’t even need a graphics card if you have a powerful enough CPU. For example, it is possible to get 60+ FPS at 1080p using just the integrated graphics chip in a good i5 or i7 CPU (such as the i5-8400 or i7-8700).

He clearly says he will be running at below HD resolution. The i3 will be fine

Minimum spec is below HD resolution. Also CPU is what matters in minecraft. Intel Core i3-3210 3.2 GHz / AMD A8-7600 APU 3.1 GHz or equivalent is the lowest cpu. Also 4GB of RAM. Worth just running it anyway and seeing what happens. What do you have to lose really.

I3 2100 vs i3 3210 there actual performance different on a core to core basis is about 5% that come done to the 3210 been 0.1ghz faster.

The i3 2100 will do the job. 8gb of ram and a cheap gpu and your ok for minimum specs as you ask
However tbf you can get a i5 2500 none k for under £20

What you have to remember is not all cpus are tested. I have no doubt in my mine the 1156 range of i5/i7 will run the game but there not listed as been the minimum spec because they didn't test all cpu's. A developer as to pick a cut off point when it comes to testing, they look to have picked ivy bridge that means no sandy bridge cpus will work?

I'm not sure about that TBH. Ivy added 1600 vs 1333 bus. Chances are the current memory is only 1066. The 2100 could be well under minimum spec.

FPS is low on that CPU. <20fps

Performance on the other CPU is not great as well

100% need a gpu for any sort of fps performance. It's near to unplayable without a GPU. Its very slow updating with one but at least you get a decent frame rate.

GPU: GeForce GTX 1050 Ti
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2100 CPU @ 3.10GHz
Memory: 12 GB RAM (11.96 GB RAM usable)
Current resolution: 1600 x 900, 60Hz
Operating system: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro

Remember minecraft can run on anything but the draw distance just becomes bad. Moving into new areas just lags like mad. You can see in the video, even with the 1050ti the draw distance is basically tiny.
