Would Moving The Heatsink Slightly Been a Good Idea??

Have recently applied my Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme to my Q6600, been overclocking the cpu and have gotten to 3.4 which im happy with and am now in the process of seeing how lower i can get the volts (am at 1.4050 at the moment). But have noticed that the heat on cores 0&1 are about 7-8c hotter than on cores 2&3, as im looking at it now via Core Temp, im getting readings, 60, 59, 52, 52. So cores 0&1 are only 1 degree difference (no problem really), and cores 2&3 are dead on the same (great). But theres 7-8 degrees difference between the 2 pairs of cores.

Now i woundering, as the Thermalright Ultra has a rather large base, and you can actually see if you have it placed 100% center to the cpu when you have it hovering over it, if maybe i have applied it to the cpu not quite center and thats why im getting 7-8c differences, cos the heatsink is place better over cores 2&3, hence their cooler.

Is it ok, to slacken of the spring loaded bolts on the x-clamp on the thermalright and maybe slide it over in one direction and see if that alters the temps, or whould this not work as the thermal paste would have set by now? Question is if it is ok to slide the heatsink slightly what direction do i need to slide it to?? How are the cores positioned on the cpu are they:

0 1
2 3

The golden corner arrow that is marked on the cpu would be where core 2 is?

a few weeks back i twisted my tuniq tower because it looked like it wasnt straight, my temperatures shot up immediately! i think you'll find that thermal paste kind of dries and cures, which makes it tear and not smudge once its been applied.

you could give it a try, but makes sure you turn your computer off straight away if your temperatures rise, and re seat your heatsink.

Ok will do, i guess the next question is then, can you re seat the Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme within the case, i know it will be more difficult that doing it out side the case but is it possible?. The thought of cutting all my cable ties, unpluging plugs, taking all the pci cards out etc doesnt feel me with joy that much, will take forever :(

i managed to do my tuniq tower in the case, was a two man job, you need to have someone to hold and lower the heatsink in the case, without smudging your thermal paste all over your motherboard! and the other person can tighten the screws etc.

not sure about that heat sink though, might be different? mine just has four hand screws.

I need to do mine, my temps are higher on two cores by about 7C, its just so fiddly!

Ah ok, will have a look later and see if its doable. Im hoping i can get all cores down to the temp of cores 2&3 so there all around 52c. Hopefully it wont be worse that it is now thats just my 1 concern
