Ive got the chance to get a 4870x2 for fairly cheap which i think would be great for my new 24inch monitor, ive got a corsair 520w psu though (im not sure if its still for sale on ocuk, but i remember them being known as very reliable/stabe), im also running an e6400 @ 3ghz too.

Thanks

Assuming you don't have anything exotic in your system drawing a lot of power then a rough power calculation is 450W so in theory you should be OK.

However, the 4870x2 requires one 6 pin and one 8 pin power connector from your PSU and it seems unlikely that your PSU will have these.

Define fairly cheap because if you have to buy a new psu then it's not worth doing given the prices of the 6850 and 6870 cards both of which will more than likely easily be accomodated by your current psu - just my opinion.

It will be tight. You would be looking at around 450W in a loaded situation which doesn't give you a lot of scope.

ATI recommend a 600W supply so potentially you are close to it but 80 watts is a lot to be short.

Some reviews said:
Palit HD4870 X2 2GB 426w
Radeon HD 4870 X2 (R700) ** 448 Watt

One site had the card consuming 263.9 Watt just by itself.

Not sure if I'd risk it.

Iirc something in the area of 600 - 650 is advised but you might just be 'ok' in some situations since you have a Corsair psu. I'd still change it though if you are set on buying this ageing beast.
