Would my motherboard, an Asus P8Z68-V Pro/Gen3 support the following ram, got some 1600mhz ddr3 8gb atm and need an upgrade.

Looking at the specs the kit will downclock to a lower speed.

I7 2600k cpu
7970 gpu
Water cooling kit too

Sandybridge (which is what you have) and ivybridge dont have the same memory controllers as Haswell/Devils canyon, very rare to get high speed RAM to work on them.

But then I cant really tell you to buy a slower kit when a 2400Mhz kit is the same price or just £10 more.

I think you should get the faster RAM and let it run at the lower speed.
