all talks and write ups i keep seeing is making me think about maybe giving it a go, but i am not prepared to fork out money for a good hardware spec for it, however id be willing to get a new hard drive and turn my system(sig) in to a very basic starter as its low powered and just buy a better system/maybe laptop to carry on with everything i currently use my pc for, just a lot of mix reviews on what the gt 610 low rate actually makes.

Any PC can technically do it, it just boils down to is it worth it. I don't think it would be worth your time on the system in your sig, although it would mine, it would take ages to build up anything worthwhile.

You could still try it, though?

thanks for reply.

thats what i was thinking, i already own it, its a low powered system and the only thing id need to buy is another hard drive unless i can salvage one of my current drives and just reinstall windows then get the required software, just i dont know how demanding on a system mining makes it, i know people spend big to get the big hash rates, but i just want to try it out to see if i think its worth it like others do which is why id be happy with a poor low rate as a sort of baby steps taking.

You might be surprised how quiet your system could be when mining. When mining you can tweak your voltages and power limit down while maintaining performance, which means while your system may be running at full tilt, it isn't producing the amount of heat (and as a result, noise) it usually would. Using both GPU and CPU I run them at around 30% fan speed while keeping them under 60C.

I can also confirm that a mining PC is a decent heater, depending on room size and time. Almost all the power consumed by your PC ends up as heat, so consider it a 300w+ heater running 24/7.

If anyone here wants to dip their toes in to mining, check out the OCUK mining pool. Mining alone doesn't really work unless you have an enormous amount of power, so you're better off the pool. By teaming together, we increase our chances of earning, and there are some very knowledgeable members in the thread who will be able to answer your noob questions and get you set up. I speak from very recent experience :p
