Hello,
I currently have 4 gig pc2-6400 gold ram in my system. Would my system take advantage of another 4 gig of ram or not?

I am running windows 7 ultimate 64 bit.
5870 gpu
gigabyte EP45-DS3 mobo

Then no. Very few games use up 4Gb never mind 8!

Sorry! Save your cash. Keep the money for your next upgrade. What CPU, is it overclocked? If not, use that cash for a better Heatsink and Fan and get more out of thy chips!

yes i got a e8400 with a freezer pro on top. but i can only get it to about 3.4 ghz withous bsod screen

Increase the volts more then?

3.4 is quite mild for an e8400 but realistically you aren't going to get that much more performance out of it in real world situations

next upgrade is a quad core, not more ram!

4gb is plenty

I read an article on this topic and going from 4gb to 8 was said to improve the lowest fps but not highest or average.

It will make your os load stuff quicker thou if superfetch is turned on

It will likely affect you overclock in a negative way.

More RAM puts more stress on the memory controller (on the motherboard) and as a result can limit how much you can overclock the CPU and RAM. If you don't need more RAM, then I would suggest sticking with what you have. Anyway, RAM is darn expensive now - certainly not the time to buy some.
