Can anyone tell me (preferably someone who works for OcUK) whether OcUK would put my PC together for me if I'm buying all of my components from them?

I found another website where they do that, but they don't sell the graf card I want.

I know some of you would say that it's easy to build your own PC, but I'm an idiot and I know I'll mess it up somehow.

Yeah, some of those rigs are really good, and some of them are very close to what I'm looking for, but none of them are exactly what I want.

What I basically want to do is take one of those mid-range machines (costing around £700) and upgrade to a better graf card.

not many people form the shop are regular on the forum.

as a said above look at the range, especially system builder

see if you can get what you want

you could try and phone them, ask the question.

also it really isn't that hard to build a PC

If i can build a pc, then so can you!

all i did was go onto youtube and type in things like, "how to install a graphics card" and "how to build a pc"

Theres a lot of step my step videos that show how to do things...

it really is a lot easier than you think.

I did my first build not long ago... well worth it

Is it really as simple as they say, then: all you have to do is insert different components together in the correct way, then power up? I heard it only takes 2 hours to build a whole PC.

How long did it take you?

I like to take about 6 hours to get everything spot on, this includes the time to install the OS, plan my layout, arrange my cabling to maximise the airflow etc. Its easy to clag bits together, and I think a lot more satifying.

If you know what you're doing, shouldnt take longer than 1hr to slap it in together, after that if you want to get best airflow or some other mods it can take longer.
Althought if you dont feel like being good at it and never did it before it might take ages ( oh good I remember my friend spending 40minutes trying to figure out how to mount HDDs in antec p182 and then couldnt fit in the zalman 9700 for another 30min ;-) ), also there is high risk of messing up something ;).

OC_UK Staff does not build custom PCs as far as I know since I've asked them some time ago about it. They only build the ones that are in their offer pre-assembled by them or the ones from PC-builder where you can move around some of the stuff.

yeah, me too... only thing i still have issues with is the wiring, but experience will take care of that :D...

it's not difficult if you are willing to try and also do a bit of research beforehand...

I am willing, for sure. The problem is that I just don't have the time to do the research - and I definitely don't have time to spend ages fixing any mistakes I make when putting the thing together, and there will almost definitely be some.

Some of you have mentioned 'airflow'. Is that important when building a PC. What does it involve exactly - tying cables together, maximising open space inside the PC, etc?

exactly that, it depends on the case also, some of them got special cable managment features. It's all about making it as tidy as possible so the air inside flows through the mobo/cpu/gpu/psu better making all of it cooler which is very important if you do some heavier overclocking (where temps are very important) or just want to keep the temps low.

Why not do just that?

What, buy the system, sell the graf card, and replace it with the one I want? That would be a waste of money.

Phoenix, if I'm not overclocking, would I need to worry at all about the cables (i.e. could I just hook 'em up and leave them where they are)?

I'd never recommend someone leave their case untidy. If you arrange your cables properly then your components will be cooler and last longer, regardless of whether you're overclocking.

Maybe if you tell us what exact spec you want we can advise you more effectively.
