Would power cycling/resetting router fix a constantly dropping internet connection

So basically, my internet connection has been infrequently dropping out for almost two weeks (there has been one or two times where it's been stable for either 24 or 48 hours, but it always goes back to dropping out again) and the most recent option given to me by the slow helpers on the sky help forums is to either switch the router off for a minute or to reset it.

The question here (before I do anything since I don't trust the information given out by sky after that netstat farce last month) is would either of these two options actually fix a dropping internet connection? (it's not that it's dropping every few minutes, it drops out every so often (could be at least five hours or so between drops) with some of them being really annoying as they result in either a log out from whatever site I'm on or a tirade of foul language if I'm doing something when it drops).

Unlikely but it's worth a shot.

I did do a power cycle of the router, but only because I wanted to swap the microfilter out for the one I was using before the netstat fiasco (I thought that the loss of connection I had was down to a dead microfilter so I changed it, but it turned out not to be the problem and I decided to keep the newer microfilter connected), and things seem to be going well as the connection has been stable for just over 12 hours (that could be the kiss of death as I've had times of connection stability, but things were getting worse really early this morning with more frequent connection dropouts but not the same as I've had since this started).
