Hi all,

Right, well I haven't built a PC for about 5 years and my current system (don't laugh) is based around an old 2Ghz P4 (won't go into details). So basically I'm like a noob at this now.

Anyway my mate has sold me an Athlon 3700 san diego for £20, so I've been trying to get my head around what I can build. I'm really struggling on some parts and was wondering if anyone can give me advice on my possible choices so far plus a few other bits (bear with me as not even sure about compatiblity etc):

I'm on a pretty tight budget, dont really wanna spend more than another £350 ish. Oh by the way, it's gonna be for general use and gaming!

What do we think so far? (i've rounded prices a bit)

MOBO - Asus A8N-E £65
G.Card - 3Dfusion 7600GT 256mb - £115
HDD - Maxtor 160gb - £42

Not sure about the following:

RAM - Not got a clue about diffent makes/types, was thinking maybe - Corsair 1Gb DDR XMS3200C2PT TWINX - £82

PSU - Haven't got a clue about wattage or makes, any suggestions? Need a new case as well so anyone know a good cheap case/psu combo for the above spec?

Like I say, having really problems here deciding, lol. So any help at all from you experts would be brilliant!

thanks in advance,
Ramman

Well its a shame you gone on socket 939, this is because you could have picked up a good cheap dual core which is at a higher clock rate than the current one you have.

Can't change that now though :P

Only need something like a 400watt soemthing like this should do it -
Enermax Liberty 400W ELT400AWT ATX2.2 (CA-026-EN) - £40.95

As for cases depends on what you want to spend for one and if you want to do the whole "modding" thing.

But i'm not very experienced so don't have to listen to me :P

Thanks for your help Matt. Yeah probably socket 939 not the best thing long term, but it'll do me for a while (my current one is so bad, lol). That PSU sounds good, thanks.

Any thoughts on my choice of RAM? (any idea if it's best to get 2x512 than 1x1Gb?).

Thanks again
Ramman
