Would there be much benefit going from locked DC to locked QC

I have a sandy pentium dual core @3.1GHz in my bedroom/lounge PC. Whilst it maxes games like Tomb Raidetr easy peasy, it really struggles with GTA IV, Project CARS and Witcher 2. These games run flawlessly on my 4770k @ 4.7GHz main PC.

Is this because of the increase in cores or the increase in GHz? i.e will i see a big improvement if I put a sandy or ivy locked quad into my lounge pc? It is a basic H61 motherboard so can't do overclocking.

For the games lisatwd above, do they like more cores or more GHz specifically? E.g. FSX digs GHz over cores.

So... is a locked sandy i5 for £45 or so on the MM a worthwhile upgrade basically?
