Hi the I wanted a gtx590 but bit put off with all the problems it's had, had a look around and wondered if 2x 2GB gtx560ti would give a similar performance to the 590. Or should I just get a 580 for now and save for another?

What games do you play that need a 590?
IIRC the 590 problems have been fixed.
I would get 2 480's now or one 580 if you can certainly get another one later.
You could also look into 570 SLI

You could get a 580 for now, Keplers will be out in roughly 6 months time, so you could then essentially get 590 performance out of a single GPU card. 6 months will fly past.

For your large screen at high resolution you definitely want as much vram as possible, therefore stay away from 570 imo. 2 x 2GB GTX560Ti would be my first choice, while 2 x 480 with non-reference coolers / 2 x 580 would be my second choice.

590 is just for marketing purposes (see the stock of NVDA on launch day of 590) and it's not so good for gaming.
