Would this £500 build be decent for gaming?

Hi, I was wondering if this build that my friend made for me would be decent for gaming, namely Guild Wars 2 to begin with but also with the potential for upgrades in future should I want to play games with higher specs.

No graphics card included because I'm buying one off said friend for £70 (AMD HD 6950). Let me know if I've missed any other components.

I'm not looking to spend more, if anything I'd like to spend less but if there are components that could be swapped for something a lot better for a small price then I am willing to do so. If any of the components are too good and can be changed for something cheaper for now then I'd be very happy.

To be honest for £500 without a GPU you can do much better

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte Z97X-SLI - Devils Canyon Core i5 4690K Bundle **£14 Saving** £252.58
1 x Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-Bit DVD - OEM (WN7-00614) £74.99
1 x Kingston HyperX 8GB (2x4GB) PC3-17100C11 2133MHz Dual Channel Kit - Black/Red (HX21C11BRK2/8-OC) £67.99

That has an i5 4690k (considerably better performance in most apps/all apps than the 6300)

Better PSU

Soundcard not needed, especially a £10 jobbie, inbuilt motherboard solutions are excellent
SLI ready motherboard
You can drop the CPU/mobo possibly and add an SSD if you wanted (SSDs are great)

Scratch that, didn't realise the budget included the GPU

Here's a rethink

1 x AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 8320 Black Edition 3.50GHz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail £95.99

This would be better in most aspects than your build, better CPU, better RAM, better HDD, better PSU, no soundcard as the onboard sound should be better than that £10 jobbie

What he said^

Fx processors are dead

FX Processors are definitely not dead :p In fact, they represent very good value for money when it comes to budget builds, in newer titles such as BF4 etc, the 8320 CPU holds it's own against the more expensive i5 4670k/4690k very well - sure, single core performance is not nearly as fast, but the value for money cannot be missed in these circumstances

For the OPs budget, the 8320 would do very well. However, an Intel option

i3 probably isn't as good for gaming generally as an 8320

The above are both good builds.

Just want to add that your friend is overcharging you (IMO) on that 6950. I bought a 7850 for £50 recently which is a bit faster and uses a lot less power than the 6950. Get haggling!
