Would This Be A Good Gaming Experience?

Looking at getting a GALAX GeForce GTX 970 "Hall of Fame Edition" and a AOC 1080p G-Sync Monitor. I could stretch to a 980 Hall of Fame Edition but not sure at 1080p if I would notice much of a difference. What does everyone think would I have a good gaming experience with those playing at ultra/max settings on 1080p.

16GB 1866MHz Ram
1TB Hardrive
Corsair RM550 PSU
Gigabyte Z97M-D3H Intel Z97

Don't have one at moment moving from a gaming laptop that is a few years old and struggling to play games now. I've been purchasing parts over the past couple of months all assembled now in a Bit Fenix Phenom Nvidia Special Edition case just waiting slot a GPU into the PCI-E slot. Reason why I asked about monitor as well as currently haven't got one.

Forgot mention in OP my motherboard is a Gigabyte Z97M-D3H Intel Z97.

id go g1 970 and a 120/144hz 24" for FPS or 27" IPS depending on games!

Yeah I am a bit dubious about TN Panels if I am honest but have heard a lot of good things about G Sync. Honestly I did see that curved screen but can't find any reviews anywhere in regards to them so not sure if they are any good but it does look pretty awesome.

Err why not the HOF one? Isn't that better for overclock and initial base ?

In regards to both of you I will be playing a mix of games such as Rome Total War 2, Star Citizen soonish, Shadows of Mordor, The Old Republic, Star Craft 2, CiV 5, Crusader Kings 2. Will look into playing BF4 and Assassins Creed Unity as well. Possibly Witcher 3 next year.

The later is the reason I was considering the 980.
