hey, just wondering if this set up would be any good or not.

was planning on getting
cambridge audio A1 amp
http://www.cambridgeaudio.com/summary.php?PID=31&Title=Summary

and a pair of Tannoy f1 speakers
http://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/review/home_entertainment/tannoy/mecury_f1_custom/221326

this'll put me back around £200 :(

couple of things im wondering, would i need a sound card for this set up?

i'll be using them for background music while working at the PC and gaming (not hardcore gaming, but i'd like to be able to distinguish left and right)

should i go with my selection or pick up a soundcard (probably a xonar) and pc speaker set? was also toying between

or a decent 2.0 or 2.1 set

main considerations are bang for buck (prefer to spend less than £200 total if possible), and because i work in the evening and night, i'm looking for good quality at lower volumes. (no ground shaking sub woofers :( )

edit: forgot to mention that my current 5.1 speaker set has horrific sound fluctuations, and sound quality thats worse than my ipod headphones :(

Hey Drew,

I have just bought an identical setup as the one you want :p I have to tell you the F1's sound amazing!! Way better than my old logitech 5.1 setup!

I am using onboard sound and don't feel the need for an expensive soundcard... As for £200 for this setup...thats too much mate. My A1 amp, F1 speakers, 2 metres of QED Silver Anniversary XT cable only cost me £123

The amp I bought used off a well known auction site...no point buying brand new as these things are built to last. Speakers and cabling were new.
