Hi, just looking at building a new system and while some items are on sale i thought i'd check them now.

Got these selected so far Need a motherboard for it and already have a PSU/monitor/mouse/keyboard. would this stuff work together and which motherboard to go for? also this is kind of on a low budget, so any changes to make it good and lower cost would be great. thankyou.

You could swap the Artic Freezer Xtreme for the Artic Freezer 7 Pro. Other than that, I really cannot see how you can save extra money (except for swapping the 300 for some diabolically poor case).

Plus, that 300 doesn't come with front fans, so buy a couple of Yate Loons for it. What wattage/brand PSU do you have and what size/resolution is your screen?

a brand new corsair TX 650w PSU, and the monitor is only 19 inch at 1280 by 1024

Yeah, thats all fine then.

To be honest though, for that screen, you could swap the GPU to a 4850. The 4870 is a bit of a waste at that res. Although, with a 4870 at 1280x1024 you wouldn't have to upgrade for about three years. :D

if i was to get a graphics card like that, should i get the 4870 or go for a GTX 260?
edit: i might be lookng for a larger screen soon

The 4870 is better than the 260 and is about £40 cheaper so go for the ATI.

A 4870 512Mb is good for up to a 22" 1680x1050 screen.

A 4870 1GB or GTX280 would be suitable for a 24" 1920x1200 screen.

A 4870X2 is suitable up to a 30" screen.
