Hello and welcome to the forum :)

Please could you remove the link as it would be classed as a competitor of Overclockers and check the FAQ :)

Right, constructive post.

Would you not just be able to update it completely? That's a very old CPU and socket. I'd recommend if I were you to start from scratch.

Sorry!

Link removed and just replaced with the name.

Ideally, I would like to start from scratch and build a good computer, but unfortunately I just don't have the money.

The cpu your looking to upgrade is no better than your current version, You better to look at the main dual core Athlon range ie 4400 cpu, but you would need to check the BIOS revisions.

How do I check these?

I just need a CPU - The one currently on the computer had a pin broken and now doesn't work (silly me). The screenshots were from before.

I picked up a new e8200 cpu, mobo, 4gb ram for £40 delivered recently, a huge upgrade over yours. Add a new psu for 40 and anetter gpu (used) for £30 and you'll have a much better pc for £110. It might also use less power, helping you recoup some of the cost.

Really? Could you tell me the name/link of the components - I'll consider just saving up instead of upgrading this. Would I need a new case?

This is my current case:

Can you measure the mainboard/motherboard? That will let us know the size/form factor of it, a quick google search doesn't seem to say what it is :(

Yeah, most shelf PC's are, just wanted to make sure :)

I would suggest looking for a second hand mATX motherboard, what's your max budget?

As little as possible really

this isn't for me - it's for my brother.

He plays these games: CS 1.6, CSS, Gary's Mod, Dota, HoN and would like to play Dota 2 but that's not a big priority.

Yeah, if anything you'd want to go trinity however it isn't very cheap and as that is an old PC the RAM will need updating too.

What's trinity?

It has 2.5gb of RAM right now and that's fine isn't it?

Also, if I go for the whole new motherboard and CPU could you recommend one that will still work with my harddrive and RAM and CD drive.
