Would this fail the MOT?

Hello
I am getting back on the road as of Saturday!

My dad has just bought me a 2006 1.4 VW Polo!

Not too bad for a free car

I have once question however, the drivers side wing mirror has a crack in the glass, and is visibly broken, the structure of the wing mirror is intanct, its just the glass that is cracked.

The cars MOT has just expired, but as we are buying it from a dealership they are putting it through an MOT before we get the car on Saturday.

We asked them if they would replace this glass as part of the price but they said no.

My question is, would this very visible crack in the drivers side mirror cause it to fail the MOT?

yes its a fail

they will most likely buy the stick on ones that you can put over it, it will pass with that

probably just an advisory, i would imagine if the panel is still useable and not causing problems with the use of the mirror, it would be ok.

MY GFs old car went through two MOTs with a cracked wing mirror.

IIRC you need two working mirrors so as long as the rear view mirror and your other mirror is fine it should pass.

MIRRORS

Not all mirrors on all vehicles are subject to Test, depending on the age of the vehicle. Those mirrors which must be checked must be:

• Secure
• Visible from the drivers seat
• Not distorted or damaged so as to seriously impair the drivers view to the rear.

i bought a car from a trader with cracked wing mirror who put it through MOT, i told him it would me an MOT fail and he said nah it be fine

when i got the car, he had stuck mirror on
