Would this Intel/ ATI build work?

Hello, I'm a total rookie when it comes to building computers (this is my first attempt at building one) and i spent a few hours browsing around overclockers and came up with this build and took a bit of info from this thread : http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18253326.

I'm just wondering if this build would work well? I won't be using really demanding games, I have an Xbox for that. It'd mainly be games from a few years ago like Fallout 3 etc. On the thread I linked earlier, they have 8GB of RAM, so i halved it to 4GB, is it worth using 8GB or would it better with 6Gig? I'd very much appreciate any help and advice! Thank-you!

4GB is fine for a gaming pc.

The RAM will not fit under that great cooler, I have used one with a sandybridge build, and only Corsair XMS3 or GEIL Value RAM will fit underneath.

the only other problem I see is the P67 motherboard and the non K CPU.

you may as well select a H67 board as you cant overclock a non K CPU, or select a 2500K cpu to go with the board you have selected.

And did you want a motherboard that offers Crossfire/SLi like that one?

Ahh okay, well I want to have the option of overclocking in the future so this would be a better CPU?
Intel Core i5-2500 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail

And again i wouldn't mind having the option of adding another GPU in the future so I reckon i'll stick with the Crossfire/ SLI capability.

Thats not CPU you want.

get the K

Keep rest of the spec, but as I said the RAM will never fit under that cooler.

Thats what you will be dealing with, not much room.

Well thats a bit of a bugger, erm, well I imagine that's due to the funky fin thing thats going on on top of the RAM cards haha? Would this be a better fan? It looks a hell of a lot smaller, I really have no idea which fan would fit it, is there a way to find out without trial and error?

Wow that is quite a squeeze, its a lot bigger than I thought it was going to be! But if it gets the job done well, then I guess i should look for slimmer RAM cards!

The gskill ripjaws are a ridiculous size. I never understand why the RAM needs such a huge heatsink on it. My RAM doesn't have that size and it stays perfectly cool.

One last thing, have you seen the Antec100? I normally dont change peoples cases that they have selected (unless they are just crap) because its a personal thing and you have to look at it.

but its almost identical and cheaper.

I guess it's partly a cosmetics thing. If you have a window in the side of your case, then that RAM may look quite cool, although what do I know haha!

To be honest I think I prefer the Antec 300, the front panel is more to my liking! haha call me crazy, theres not a lot of difference! Thankyou anyway!

Haha I do apologise, the quote must have copied wrong or the message was edited! Just to clarify, this IS the right processor? Just the slight difference with the "2500k", easy to miss!

Yup that's the one ;)

Brilliant! Thank-you! Now i've got to buy the parts some time this week before the offers on some of the pieces expire!!

They expire tomorrow.

If you have to wait till after this, then make sure you come back for a re-check on the parts to see if some bits can be swapped for bargains.
