Hello guys, I built a computer for my little brother specs as follow:

CPU I7 4770k 4.5ghz @ 1.32v temps in mid 60s, under prime95
RAM 2x4 2133mhz g.skill 2x4gb 1866mhz corsair vengeance pro Both sets run currently at 1600mhz CL9
MOBO ASUS Z87-PRO
GPU Zotac GTX 980ti AMP Edition OC-ed to 1423mhz (boost)
PSU Corsair AX760
SSD +hdd + be quiet cooler (not relevant)

My question is pushing ram to 2133 or even 2400mhz worth it? I don't have time to test it thus asking but he is mainly going to game on it. I was surprised that it achieves a solid 60fps avg most of the time in Odyssey while running through woods and cities (almost maxed out except volumetric clouds).

Thanks in advance

Could you just not enable XMP in the bios and it should run at 2133mhz?

My ram on my X58 mobo runs at 1333mhz, once I enable XMP it goes to its rated speed of 1600mhz

I don’t bother with memory OC at all. Just set XMP. No noticeable gains with an OC for me,except in synthetic benchmarks, and even then just a few %

As one set of memory is 1866, it would probably run at 1866 or even lower. Not sure if the 2133 would include a suitable XMP profile for 1866 as well.

As for whether it's of benefit, I've found my 2666 DDR3 introduced instability - I was able to overclock a 4690k higher when I dropped the RAM speeds a bit.

I'd say it's a decent machine, the mismatched ram is weird, but if it works then I wouldn't spend anything on it, leave it alone and run it into the ground.

Thanks for your replies guys Ill just leave it then.

I hope after 8h of prime95 and 3h of heaven 1080p max out with MSAAx8 makes it stable :) I played odyssey on it for 1hour or so and it runs not far of my 1080ti ( I mean the fps wasn't as high but would be able to tell the difference, without looking at fps counter, the game ran so smoothly)
