Would this upgrade be worth it?

Hi.

My current system is the one listed at the top here:

Ive been considering treating myself when my course ends in a few weeks.
I was considering an X2 3800 & something like a 7800GTX (or a X1900).

Do you lot think that that would be a worthwhile upgrade over what i currently have?

Im also toying with the idea of getting a S939 SLI mobo. So i can then run 3 monitors properly.

Ideas & input much appriciated.

Depends on what you use it for. The 1900XT would be a good upgrade for the gaming. An X2 depends on wether you game or code.

Do you run the 3000+ at stock? If so, you might end up being bottlenecked by the cpu were you to opt for the gfx card upgrade.

I wasnt entirely clear in the first post: Its not an either/or question.
Its a question of wether the upgrade from a 3000/X800XL to a X2 3800/X1800 would be worth the money or not.

Or would i be better suited in saving the money and going for one over the other, or prehaps neither and saving till i can do a complete system overhall.

Expensive yes, subsancial improvement yes. My mates just went from a 3000 Winnie X800XL to a 4200X2 and 7900GTX and says its a huge improvement, albeit expensive.

Agree with the above, plus yopu can always flog your 3000+ and x800 gfx card to recoup some of the cost.

Will a X2 3800 & 7800+ or a X1800+ be good enough to run X3 well?
X3 runs quite badly on my current system, and im planning on getting into X3 over the summer (ive had it since launch, but havnt played it beyond an hour! lol

).

x1800xt is the best option to go for unless you have money to spend then get the 7900gtx or x1900xt both have their disadvantages and advantages which can be researched in the graphics card part of the forum

X3 has poor coding, the patches did little to fix most problems. I've seen top end systems struggle with this game the same way lower spec ones do.

I brought X3 after spending heap loads of time on X2, and was sorely disappointed with it, took it back and got NFS:MW instead.
