would my Crucial Ballistix (2x1GB) 6400C4 (BL2KIT12864AA804) run ok with Crucial Ballistix (2x1GB) 5300C3 (BL2KIT12864AA663)? just asking as i can get the 5300C3 for £30

and would make a good upgrade

They would work together but not at different speeds. you would need to set the timings voltage and speed that will work with both sets of ram.

But i've seen people running 5300 at C5 running at around 1000Mhz. So i don't think you'd have any trouble with them.

They're both the exact same memory, so they will be fine.

Not sure if this matters but I hear Crucial is migrating to 128mb ICs for some of their 1gb modules. Your listed combo should still run just fine but it's something to be aware of.
