A Laptop with a 3 g dongle as the gateway. The router acts as a switch and on the config of the router i point the gateway setting to the laptop then i can have static ip address for the clients who connect to the the switch which points to the laptop which points to the gateway.

my question is that the ip address of the dongle will change each time. How will i get the laptop to alway point to the dongle statically?

just bridge the connection of the 3g dongle the other network adapter that connects to the router/switch :)

Are you connection the laptop to the router via wireless or ethernet?

The clients to the switch would be wireless. The router (acting as a switch) does have wireless technology but im confused as to how this would work.

right so lets get this right

3G Dongle plugged into USB on Laptop is the gateway.

Wireless router plugged into the ethernet port on the laptop and then into the internet ethernet port (I have pressumed your using a broadband router not an adsl modem/router)

Then bridge your 3g adapter to your ethernet port on your laptop.
