Had a replacement 7970, which originally had a 8-Pin and 6-Pin power connector.

The replacement has 2 8-Pins.

I don't have the required amount of 8-Pins naturally on my PSU. However I do have a spare 8-Pin CPU plug, would this work with one made for a PCI Card in order to get the required 2 8-Pins?

Or will I have to start getting out the molex to PCI 8 pin adapters in order to get the required power.

It might sound like a stupid question but I know that the 2 different types of 8-Pin have different voltages and all that crap.

The 8pin for the motherboard is a different fitment than the 8pin for PCI-E.

• If you look at each individual pin shroud, they will be shaped differently to stop people plugging them in the wrong sockets.

It will not work.

Yes.

Or a new PSU.

Well its a brand new PSU, it came with 3 8 +6 Pin cables.

I use 2 of the cables for 2 8-Pins for 1 of my replacement GPUS.

Since im left with 1 8+6 Pin, I need to somehow get a 8 pin from my over abundant sata and molex power cables.

Unless I can use the 6 Pin part and somehow make a 2 pin lol.
