i know the Corsair VS range are weak and have only had a 350w model, but someone is selling a 450 model for £20 and was wondering if it would power a q9300 and hd5850 well enough in stock settings?

Still got my quad and thinking whether to upgrade it back to a gaming style using my hd5850 which I am soon to be raplacing.

Corsair VS450 has cheap capacitors in it so wouldn't exactly happily recommend even new such and unknown amount used one is certain thumbs down without having some actual measurements from its performance.
At least if you're ever going to put newer parts with some value into that PC...

yeah i know, but when i had the 350 vs or a cx 430 or even a straight up no 80 anything 400w corsair they were not powering high systems, in fact that vs350 i had i sold it in a running machine with a stock q6600 and a 8600GT all running stock and was fine, but this 5850 has a max power of 158w, so id be looking at 253w just for cpu + gpu as the q9300 is a 95w processor that would leave 155w for the rest if 408w for the psu is correct, i am guessing that wont be enough then?

push come to shove i will sell my radeon for something better even if its still old, but ive seen a 7770ghz edition for £20 also which is what im tempted by making this whole idea in the first place, to keep the 775 i would need something better than a stock 250w and a dedicated gpu to be useful to me, but to sell i feel i would need a stronger psu still even for a light less than 50w graphics card, ive just never had such a powerful card before.
