Would you buy a x2 3800+ for £232?

I have a problem in that I need to buy a Cpu for my new Asrock dual channel motherboard. I can only afford to get it on the never never ie american express cc.

Overclockers dont expept AE so it looks like its my local shop. The guy said he would accept my card but it will be an extra 3% on the price. This will mean it will cost me about £232 for the Retail Athlon 64 dual core 3800+

Would you buy it or am I being mental here? I can pay it off my card in a couple of weeks I guess. I really want to buy it.

If I ordered the same thing from overclockers it would cost me £220 so its nothing much over.

Let the stepping help decide it for you. Check it and see how it clocks then pay the extra if its a good one.

Take a note of it and google it or check the 3800 x2 threads here.

The LDBHE 0601's are very good clockers, I have one and I got it to 2.65ghz. Other people have got these to around the same speeds and up to around 2.8ghz..

Hey all I bought one on my debit card as American express was not supported lol. I got it for £225 here are the numbers of the front of the CPU..

Result.

Im not really bothered about overclocking, so Im happy with it.

I'm a bit confused though? it says on the box amd athlon 64 x2 with 640KB Cache, operates at 2000mhz.

Yet overclockers say this..

- 2.0GHz operating speed
- 512Kb L2 cache

Each core has 128kb of L1 cache and 512k L2 cache, so 640k of cache in total for each core

Yeah it says L1 256 and L2 1024 in the bios. Makes sense now lol.
