Would you consider this weird/strange?

I'll tell you what is weird/strange ....... that you're about 16/17 and your favourite band is UB40.
Get a grip :)

What's wrong with that?

I listen to classical some days and the next day I'm listening to Death Metal. Nothing wrong with varied music taste.

At least he doesn't listen to the music crap that comes out these days (I'm young so don't judge)

Centurion, do what you want to do (within limits obviously) If I've learnt anything over the past few months its to look forward.

I made a thread about not feeling "at home" at my current school that I moved to about 1.5 years ago.

They make fun of me sometimes, because of my stupidity but what I say to myself is **** you all, I'm going to get the grades and shove them in your face on results day.

If they're just school aquaintances, I'll wager a guess that an explanation falls into one of two areas:

1. They're either still insecure individuals and are projecting their insecurities onto you - the one who's either perceived different or is seen as going places - or they're simply jealous.

2. They're concerned for you as you don't 'go out'. They're worried you may be 'missing out' and their empathy is being projected negatively. This concern is however misguided, as it is indicative of a very young/naive world-view which currently pervades the younger generation that you have to party and 'get smashed' to be normal or happy.

Do what you want Anant. They'll grow up in time and in the meanwhile you'll have (hopefully) put yourself in good stead by becoming that doctor. Don't fret too much over it now as honestly, you will blink and it will all be a distant memory anyway. Just realise you are infact a lucky one, that you don't have to go through the motions - as they will - to realise what you do now.

Also, I may aswell throw this out there: you do hang on these boards frequently enough which demographically speaking is much more 'mature' (I use the term loosely ;)) by consequence than your average teenager. It wouldn't surprise me if through becoming accustomed to certain adult thinking on here during your formative years, that it has rubbed off in real-life. Of course, that isn't taking into account your disposition to begin with.

Incidently, have you been watching that Junior Doctors programme on BBC3? Definitely something you'd enjoy.

lol youll get some positive replies cause 90 percent on here will be the same :D

it depends how you look at it and from what ive found this is what tends to happen to people

13-40 party a lot and slow down slippers and pipe at 40

people who never did the above in there younger years try to from 40 and to me its daft cause you dont look great down the club at 50 trying what 18 year olds are doing :p

enjoy yourself when your young have fun you can be boring later on in life :D

I used to be the same, except it was about computer networking and programming (yes I know ;)). But I've since made a pledge to myself that in the event of someone asking me to do something I just say yes unless I really can't afford to do it.

As long as you're not a total recluse and make sacrifices now and again then do as you please.

Going out and drinking isn't called a good time. It's what people do when they don't have anything interesting to do.

Hey!...I like UB40. Their 1988 eponymous album is excellent.

Nowt wrong with UB40, I saw them at least 4 times and had their early albums but a 16 year old who seems obsessed with them is a bit weird.

Better than the majority of stuff that you cover tbh.

Can't argue with that although it still fills a pub and gives me another wage.

And yet ub40 are still playing in arenas even though, according to you, only old people should like them.
But thats just mildly off topic.

Cheers nix. I've never really thought about it like that but I think you've hit the nail on the head with number 2.

I don't imagine that being on this board has shaped my mentality significantly. I've gained a lot from here but as you've said, I've always had this kind of disposition.

Yes I've been watching that doctor show. thanks for asking, it's quite an eye opener.

Again. Cheers for the replies everyone :)

EDIT dmpoole, I'm about to go to bed. But tomorrow I'll tty to justify my music taste to you ;)

Once again somebody has to read my post wrong and I'm surprised it's you, I thought you had a few more brain cells.
By your post I shouldn't listen to Buddy Holly or Johnny Burnette because only people older than me should be listening to them.
In fact Buddy Holly is my all time favourite which puts me on a par with TheCenturion but the difference is I don't bring him up in every thread in MUSIC at the first chance or start threads on him.
TheCenturion is besotted with UB40 and if you read his earlier posts in MUSIC you will see it was the only band he ever talked about and at one point (until I asked him) I thought it was the only band he listened to.
My post was a little joke dig at him which I'm 100% sure he got.

Do what you love and be yourself. Many people do really think that lifes zenith is a night out, and quite often these people don't have other significant interests in their lives or goals. I do enjoy going out but the "getting bladdered" culture is getting out of hand, and it isn't a good lifestyle to get into.

blah blah blah

Ah so I need brain cells to understand your in jokes of people eh? Well done you.
UB40 wasn't mentioned so your dig at him seemed out of order. I would think you would have more brain cells to understand it could be taken like that.
Shouldn't expect any less though I guess.
