Would you consider this weird/strange?

Incidently, how did you fund your education through five years? Is it different to the traditional student loan or are there other options available?

Thread revival-ish: Neither myself nor my family are particularly well off, so combination of student loans and tuition fee grants saw me through university. I say 'grants' I'm still not actually sure if they were in fact also loans, of which I'm currently paying back at the rate of £216/month (and I don't know how many months left, lol). But no different to any other student loan as far as I'm aware. Just longer!

Ah fair play. Have to admit, the BBC have at least made the profession seem far more interesting than I ever gave it credit. Shame we didn't have 'insight' like this when we were younger! I think my whole career counselling thing I did involved plugging in the likes/dislikes of my 14 year-old self and finding I was suited to just about every job that had no relevance to me.

It's slightly perverse in my eyes that such crucial choices are left on us when we're so young and have no life-experience to make such decisions. Irrelevent anyway, medical school would have laughed me out of the building for even suggesting I apply. That's what I get for being a retard. :D

I take it you did your junior doctory stuff at SUH then?

Never mind, do what you want to do. Most people party & get blotto to try & escape a crappy working life in my experience.

You'll be 'old' soon enough, perhaps be like me & have other older people think you're weird for things like renting a house instead of buying. Plus constantly boring you with just how fabulous being a homeowner, sorry 'mortgage owner', is......

Go out and have a good time without drinking?

Have you tried being in a room with 200+ people off there heads, its not fun at all! i was on a health trip around my mates 21's and didnt drink and it was an awfull night!

Allthough you get a good look at how much of a tit you act when drunk

Wow, you're so boring.... Just kidding OP. You shouldn't care what people think. You need to live life your way, not how other people want you to live it.

I used to be quite paranoid about what other people think of me, but these days I honestly do not care at all. Screw everyone who thinks negatively about me.

Going out and getting wasted can be fun, but as you get older the appeal lessens, nothing wrong whatsoever in sitting discussing topics of interest with like minded people. Sod what others think.

There is one key to life. You need to be able to justify yourself. To yourself.

Nothing whatsoever matters away from this.

EDIT; that seemed well deep when I was paraletic last night.

Oh you have no idea- some people might think these guys on tv seem incompetent at times, you should see some other 'doctors'... Honestly, one doesn't have to be that smart to be a doctor, and you seem pretty smart so I reckon you would have been just fine. And yep, Southend was my first year post qualifying. Much better compared to the hole I'm working at now. I actually miss Southend... Might head back your way some time in the near future!

Tbh i think pretty much the exact opposite and would much rather discuss, think and read about factual subjects, politics, science, history.

I find people who only talk about what a friend said to a friend or football and other crap utterly boring. When an interesting conversation does start these type of people don't seem to know anything about anything.

+1
The worst is when people judge you because you know things.
Anti-intellectualism is wide spread throughout students but then again those who get good qualifications are going to be able to cherry pick a lifestyle of their choice.
Plaid shirts are not what they used to be.
