You have a close friend/relative/partner who have suffered an injury and lost part of their memory. It's probably temporary but that's not certain.
As a side effect however they've reverted to who they were when they were much younger and that person was a bit of an arse. They are however incredibly happy.

They, unfortunately, suffered a horrible trauma when they were younger. The loss of someone close to them in tragic circumstances or suffered some form of other experience of a similar level.

You've noted that when they're exposed to more of their past, parts of who they were start to come back.

Do you continue to try and restore who they are knowing they'd have to relive that trauma?
