Games firm rang me for a job interview over the phone.

Got a 2nd phone interview, all seemed to go great, although one question i got stuck on.

now they have asked me to go see them in person in France. Problem is i have to foot all the bills for travel and staying there.

Added up it comes close to £450 as its short notice and i lose at least two days work and pay.

But the job would be great. What do you think are the chances of being asked to o this and then being told we dont want you or could this be part of the test to see how much i want the job?

Would be a great job, but the cost to get a no, that would sting... i think im 85% certain im going for it....

Job isnt great, pay is even worse, but it will be doing a job i will love and enjoy. Compared to what im doing now, where i get paid a fair bit, but have to work from home and endure people i would rather see run over by a bus at times...

Still, its a dream job for me, so think ill risk it for a biscuit and go wander over to France for a day or two and see what happens... only money! or a 24" dell TFT.....

Think pay is somethign silly like 23000 euros a year lol...

/me still wonders what the job is... Its not a WoW game master is it?

Nope - its for a network guy. guess there will be some user support now and again but im more about network and servers.

i didnt say it wasnt for blizzard, only its not a GM job :)

Its a great job as its working for a firm that makes 2 games i love and a chance to see and work for them on the other side of the game, something i would like to do.

My issue is with them saying, sure we like you, come down here for an all day interview and you pay all costs... The job doesnt pay that much, but it isnt the money that i like about it, its the fact im working on a network for a large firm supporting something i have a passion for, games! and computers...

To be fair, the wage is about 33% of what i earn now. only now i am working away from home, doing a job i would like to quit as im reduced to supporting users as the helpdesk team i work with are not worth talking too and the system they have in place is arcaic at best. The money, while nice to have each week into my account, only helps so far. What i yearn for is a challange, and i think this may have it.

Not sure if anyone here understands what i mean, but hope you do, will prob go for the interview and see what the score is, best case is i get hired, show im good at what i do and after 6-12 months get to go to the USA. worst case, i get a 3 day break in France and a look at Blizzard office in France..

arr well, tis nothing but money, although that 24" dell screen is about the same price, hmmmmmmmm

Will let you all know how i get on lol..

TY for the input.

PS - if i can, im nerfing bloody warlocks!

Well, ive slept on it, read the info here and posted them an email saying what the costs would be and how about some recompence for my time and travel costs.

Will see what they say, but i think in the light of another day, id still want to work for them, not just as its blizzard, but tis a challange id love to take on, doing a job in any games company would be fun i think, only one i know taking on network people at the mo is blizzard though.

Still, will see what happens today with my request.

The money side i have done, working due to good wage is ok, but after a few months the boredoom is a killer. Doing a job where im doing what i enjoy, with others who enjoy it too, and doing it for something i enjoy doing, games, well itseems to have a lot of pluses.

the downside is of course this pay your own interview costs, but other than that, not bad.

Will see how it goes in france as i think im going to go for it and see what happens, rahter waste £450 on a trip to france and not get it as its crap or i dont fit in rather than wonder if i would have ever got it but never went for it.

£450 is a lot of money, but for me its within range of me losing it and not worrying me too much over it.

Well, will let you know next week what happens.
