I was having a conversation with a friend earlier and we were talking about what our opinions would be on OSX if the EU forced Apple to allow it on a standard PC platform.

If you could get decent drivers, would you consider dual booting with Windows or going OSX only?

One of the main reasons for my not wanting to use OSX is becuase of the price of hardware, but if Apple released an OEM copy for the price of a Windows licence I would seriously consider at least a dual boot.

So what are your thoughts on this hypothetical situation?

Edit: oh, and this is specificaly for Windows users, the discussion was about whether Windows users like or would change to OSX

I haven't known that to be true since the Windows 9x days - 2000, XP and Vista have all just shut down the program that broke and got on with things. I assume NT4 did as well but I've never used that.

I agree, reliability really isn't a distinction between Windows and OSX, bar the fact that OSX currently doesn't have driver issues, but that doen't fit into the hypothetical situation ;)

It's honestly not too bad when you compare it with machines from other OEMs

We buy HP DC7700 with E6600, 2GB ram etc for about £350 at work. TBH, I can't see how Apple fully justify the price of the hardware without reflecting the price of the bundled OS and apps.

I voted but I'm not going to get into an argument as there is a plethora of ill-informed, biased, ignorant, and quite frankly pathetic views being put forward here...

Isn't that the point of a discussion, to argue your well informed and decent views? Isn't that the reason I created this thread? ;)

The thing is, you can run games on a Mac, and there's lots of titles available. If you're talking about specific titles, then you're correct. But I could equally say that Macs are better because I can't run Final Cut on anything else.

If we get into specific titles then the debate will never end.

But it's not necessarily about specific titles, it's about the big titles. The popular games that everyone wants to play, just simply isn't avaliable on Mac and that is an issue for a lot of people. You can't deny that.
