Would you replace a 2060 with a 2080 (or 2080ti)?

So I have a current work colleague who has a 2080-something that they want to upgrade/replace. I'm still using the 2060 I bought in the pandemic - but have since got a ultrawide screen. Which struggles with for modern games.

Would you do this upgrade? What cost/value would it put on it? And, for bonus points, did the fe cards have any fan off settings, for that little bit more peace and quiet?

Price dependant yes. both the 2080 and TI as a big step up from a 2060.. BUT..
ive seen 2080ti's selling for around £300 on ebay, for the same money you can grab a RX 6800 or a 3070ti

both are fantastic 1080 / 1440p GPU's

like a said it would be a solid upgrade if you could grab a Ti that would be the best option or even a super.
if you can use the MM iv seen 6800's go for £280(i just sold on at that) and the 3070ti's about £300

No matter what you go for i would personally class a 2060 as basic 1080 gaming now days. all the card mentioned as capable as very good 1080 and 1440

i like to use a site called gpucheck

1080 2060 vs 2080ti

1440 2060 vs 2080ti

2080ti vs 6800 just want to include this as its not a big difference in price

Would you not be better going for a 3000 series card at this point? I'm not abreast on prices but spending a few pound more for a 3070 would be a better investment in my opinion.

I might well be. Mostly I want to put off significant upgrades until the current mess clears up - a 2080 or 3070 would do, I'm hoping.

They've got to release something decent in a year or two, right?

Right?!?

That’s not going to change anytime soon unless you moving overseas. And with the way the world is going now even if GPU prices drop we won’t see very much of it on are side.

what's not decent about what's out right now?
In my case, I want to be able to run something at native and not have to use upscaling. The two games I've tried it with, control and horizon zero dawn both set my teeth on edge.

HZD I just finished anyway, control I had to set aside.

Age of card comes into play too, older has higher probability of failure. Also ampere cards are more efficient than turing cards but all depends on what sort of 2080 you can get and at what price.

What card/model is available to buy from your friend as it seems its a FE card as a 2080 something could be a 2080, 2080 Super / 2080ti.

What PSU would you be running the card with as you may or may not be ok with a 2080ti.

Just grab a 3080 off MM for £350 or less, it’s nearly 130% faster than a 2060 compared to a 2080 which is only around +40% or a 2080ti/3070 which are around +70%

The PSU was over sized when I bought it, 850w I think. Was after the 30-series was released, and it looked like GPU power use was going through the roof!

He's still not got back to me about the exact card. He's been struck down with plague, and might not be back till new year, given his booked annual leave!
