Would you run JUST a projector in your main viewing room?

Background - My lounge is approx 5m*4m, and i sit approx 4m away from my screens, i have a plasma against the wall, and a pull down 11' screen which comes down infront of it. I dont have a lot of choice over the viewing distance, because i do not want sofa's in the middle of the room, they are already away from the back wall with a walkway behind them causing wasted floor space.

I have noticed over a couple of months that i have not used the plasma at all, it hasnt even been turned on, i find it very hard to see such a small screen (42") from this viewing distance. I'm thinking of putting the plasma in my computer room and just running solely my projectors in the lounge, anyone else do this? What sort of viewing sizes vs viewing distances do you run? Even for normal daytime TV i am finding 11' a very nice diagonal to be watching from 4-5m away.

Will be weird not having a TV on show at all with the screen rolled up, but i suppose kinda cool at the same time.

I would like to get a projector, but reading around, they need to be used for long periods (2hrs + )... where i frequently watch for shorter periods than that, so no, i couldnt run solely a pj :(

They dont  I often put mine on for 30min periods. I ran a digital for years and years with this sort of usage and its still absolutely fine.

As above but really thats a bad idea also from general wear and tear for the pj bulb, you dont want to waste it on general tv viewing (unless its something a little special) also depends on the pj but certainly in the UK (not sure where you are from) a standard transmission wouldnt look ideal without some kind of scaling on a large screen anyway

Get a cheap 32" tv if you can and then save the PJ for full length films etc

I wouldn't use just a projector because if it's light in the room you wont be able to see it properly, also isn't it costly to keep changing the bulbs when they run out?

I think it's a CRT projector.

ive got a panny pt-ae500 as my main source of a screen in my room, i do use it for most things (xbox, films, freeview) and find it great, even in daylight but my room is quite dark anyway and its not the biggest of rooms so i have quite a bright image on the screen from the distance its at. I do occasionally watch stuff on my 19inch pc monitor but do use the pj more for anythin like that.

general computer use does stay on the tft mainly though, too much effort to drag my wired keyboard and mouse across to my sofa lol

as for cost, im not sure its really that costly (in terms of lcd pj's at least)? i mean most pjs have around 2000 hours bulb life, my panny has up to 5000 on low lamp mode which i run it in, so even if you used it every night after work for x ammount of hours, its still gonna last you a good year or so on the standard 2000 hours before you need to buy a new bulb i reckon. its when you start using it for 8+ hours a day every day that it wont last you a year
