Last night I got on my usual train and just as the door closed a young girl just collapsed to the floor.

She went down like a sack of spuds and hit her head on the door. No one took any notice. In fact two people actually stepped over her twisted legs to get by.

I couldn’t help it. I had to see if she was ok.. I lifted her head and managed to bring her round. "Are you ok?", I asked. She was fine.. She had been drinking - too much by the stae of her. I managed to sit her up comfortably, the train left and she was fine. The bloke sitting opposite me said “disgusting behaviour”. Emm we’ve all bee their at some point mate!

Now I know you are not going to have any sympathy for her but no one knew that it was drink related at the time. It could have anything.

My point is that no one on the train checked to see if she was ok. Everyone had there head buried in their papers their damn ipods completely oblivious to everything. Completely ignorant in my opinion.

My second point is that if she was out drinking with mates, what sort of friends sends someone on their own in that state.

Pretty appalling really..

Yeah, but you go to help and the next thing you know her drunk chav boyfriend enters the carraige from the other end and shoots you in the face.
And the sad thing is, it's no longer irrational to worry about that ACTUALLY happening :(
England is buggered mate, sorry.

i would have, but nowadays i wouldnt go near anyone in need, especialy a younger girl! you are far more likly to be acused of what ever, get abuse or sued that anyone appreciating your help.

I stillfeel the need to help, i just dont out of fear (unless it was obv a life/death kinda thing)

i had to help someone who had collapsed just off Oxford street, just yesterday.

the amount of people who just stepped over the guy was astounding. i had to call an ambulance, then waited with the guy untill the paramedic arrived...

i think he was ok.

i just cant see why people didnt stop to help.

Erm, no, actually, we havn't. If you wish to get that drunk cool, its your choice, but not on public transport.

Should have been arrested for drunk and disorderly.

Yep Huddy I certainly would, and good on you for doing so - I think it's shocking that people just walk by things like this but you see it all the time :)

Have helped quite a few drunken people in my time, dragged a drunk tramp out of a bus lane and put him on a bus stop chair, helped a fair few girls back home when they've been unable to walk, carried a few people back from clubs at Uni when they couldn't walk, I'm quite well-acquainted with such behaviour :p

Have never got so drunk that I can't walk, my legs seem to function no matter how much alcohol I throw down, but in the event I do I'd hope some-one would help me!

It depends, if it is someone who is clearly too drunk too stand on his/her feet I would do very little, if it is someone who just fell over or collapsed due to illness I would help.

Precisely Fox, she should have not set foot on public transport until she was sober again. She should have stayed in the middle of nowhere and not attempted to return home until her blood|alcohol level had dropped considerably

Drunk and disorderly? get over yourself please.

She over stepped her mark and well done on huddy being a gentleman and helping her.

I'd expect you, fox, to be the one who walked over her.

oh if your going to be pedantic about it..A fair few amougnst us have been there at some point and been taught a valuable lesson. My point is, which you have completely missed, is that nobody (including myself) could have known this at the time during or immediatley afterwards.

A friend of mine suffers from epilepsy - when he fits, 99% of people just step round or over him. It is usually only a Nurse or Doctor who shows any interest.

Absolutely spot on. Her "friends" should be ashamed of themselves.

As I said, Good on you :)

Well done you, for having a soul.

This reminds me of a car crash when i was on the bus a few months ago.

Was on bus at crossroad. I was at front of the bus so i could see the traffic turning corners etc etc.

So anyway this car comes up the right side (the blind side) of the bus and drives straight across without hesitation. Result = a car coming from the left smashed into the side of it.

About 1 second later about 50 people all appear rushing towards the car to help.

I was well impressed. They all acted at the same time as well, spooky really. One second there is no one on the road and the next there are loads. Luckily no one was seriously injured but one of the cars was a write-off.

Restores faith in humanity so it does :)

I say good on you huddy for helping the girl - granted as you've said this time it was self inflicted (drink related) but the point is that it could easily have been medically related - epilepsy for example as you've also pointed out.

This country of ours certainly is in a sad state when it comes to matters like this :(

Good on you Huddy, even if she was drunk that's no reason to say you should leave them, if you hadn't done something then someone with less favourable intentions may have gotten hold of her.

Drunk and disorderly behaviour it is not, the first place I'd want to be if I was in that state would be around people, the last thing you want to be is on your own if you're in that kind of condition.

Most people have been there, obviously not you.

Silly thing to say imho fox. she was only drunk.

Good on you OP.

Had she been acting noticeably drunk before she fell? Were the other passengers privy to something you werent?

If i saw an obviously drunk girl fall over, i wouldnt do anything...unless she was in danger..fallen into the road or something..

If it was someone in a regular state, id stop and see if i could help..although id be loathe to make physical contact.

Not to mention, if she was drunk theres a very high chance of being violently attacked if you did get involved...girl or not.

Wouldn't believe how many people end up at hospital themselves in this situation. Sad state of affairs.

I used to be eager eyed about helping people too, but sometimes you just have to try and assess the situation. Best thing I've found is if you're in a large group.

if she was by herself though on a train and she was blatently drunk and collapsed, im sure you would help her wouldnt you? wouldnt you?

Good on you for helping. You should never not help someone just because you think they are drunk. Many medical emergencies can present with someone appearing drunk when they may have bleeds in the head/abdomen..etc and mayn drunks injure themselves to give head injuries that can be life threatening.

My friend was in a crash on the motorway and there must have been about 10 cars parked up to make sure she was okay, so luckily a lot of people will stop to help!
