Would you upgrade from a 6970?

It's not exactly the most optimsed game but there's not much else that will test a card, but I was only getting 35fps max in Metro at everything on max which is unplayable. Obviously I could have dropped down a setting or 2 but for the cost of it I'd rather just get a refund and wait 6 months to see what the next gen has to offer.

I'm sure other games will handle fine but I think we're really looking at 7950 xfire to really make the most of 2560x1440.

I would have thought you'd get more than 35fps with a 7970 in Metro, even with everything cranked up to the limit.

Actually I think 35FPS in Metro at 1440p is pretty good!

This makes me feel a little better about the 7970 now because I know what Metro is like. It's like this gen's Crysis. Nothing will run that game at max settings at this resolution except a GTX 690, which is just silly money.

I'd imagine this would perform much better in something like BF3 or Crysis 2.

I took delivery of a 7970 Windforce x3 Ghz today to replace my 6970 and have already submitted an RMA request to return under DSR. It's just not powerful enough for what I need (2560x1440). I know there's no single GPU card that will really cut it at that res on max settings but as a £370 upgrade I am hugely disappointed. I expect a 680 will be exactly the same underwhelming performance.

I expect I'm just going to keep my 6970 until the next gen come out and forsake gaming at 2560x1440. So as an upgrade for me, it's not worth it.

For 1080p then it might be worth upgrading, but not for higher res.

Metro 2033? lol..... even a 6990 can only manage 45 FPS in that game.
But an overclocked 7970 can manage the same.

Did you not do any research? did you not ask people first?

To get 60 FPS in metro you need xFire 6990's or Xfire 7970's

I'd be willing to get my 7970 @ 1156 core and 1875 memory providing 360gb of memory bandwidth would give it a fair chug.

I have it on steam and will download when i get a chance and get some benches up.

I rememebr i got low fps on highest details in the benchmark, but in game i could run it pretty well if my memory is correct.

It looks like an interesting game, i'm going to get it on Friday so there will be a 7870 bench up for that to :)

Looking forward to your bench, apparently Metro is up 7% on 12.11.

best thing to do is sell 6950 for 100-110 pay 100 quid on top buy 7970 second hand

other than that wait a year no games until new engines out to change anything for a year
