Would you use a PCI-e adapter?

I have an old 6870 or something in a system for my step brother. The cheap PSU that my dad bought him for the PSU came today but only has 1, 6pin PCI-e cable.

As it's not really going to be stressed or anything like that will it be okay to use a molex to pcie adapter, i found a spare 8pin one that came with my brothers 970 so they can't be that bad?

I'd personally would never use one on my own build but they don't want to spend a lot of money on the PC :o
