Hi all.

Now nice would it be to have a motherboard where-by you'd only have to connect a single power connector the mobo in-order to power other devices like harddrives, GPU, CPU's etc. You just slot in your graphics card and THAT's it. No need for clumps of wires etc.

I wonder...... I'd doubt it though, as a single PCB track within the mobo couldn't handle 13Amps under load.

Would be nice though. I hate wires.

well in that case why not have all hard drives/optical drives wireless :p

Yes, that would be cool. It wouldn't have to be a single wire, could be one large thread of wires (like an ATX 24-pin). I'm pretty sure that would create more problems than it solves however, especially in motherboard design. Anyway, it's not like you can really put things in the wrong place nowadays, and building a PC is most of the fun of it for me!

It's not so much installing stuff in the wrong places, it's the clutter.

You'd still need power cables from the motherboard to HDD's, DVD drives etc.

but there woulnt be data lines if it was wireless - HMMMMMmmmmm...

Sorry I meant.

Have ure sata cables carry over the power to your devices, and GPU's, CPU, You just plug-in and that's it.

I seen so many nice multi-GPU setups, but the amount of cables though. Seesh.

I understand that you need cables for IO panels HDD, DVD drives, but they can also accommodate the power to these devices within the same cable as the data line.

Integrating the high-current power cables from the PSU to other components on the motherboard would just introduce so many additional concerns, as well as increasing the price of motherboards.

For example, say your PSU gives up with a power spike - on a current system, you MIGHT lose some of the components, but more than likely the majority of the system would be ok. On the other hand, if those power cables were integrated directly on the motherboard, there'd be a much higher chance of the board being written off.
