I logged into WoW just before work to transfer 10G from my main char to my alt. Instead of having the (approx) 230G which I had last night, I had 0G and all the items from my bags have gone. What the heck has happened ? Nobody has my account information other than me. Im gutted and really angry. Over the past few weeks i've put loads of spare time into it and now he's basically naked and broke. I just don't understand how this could have happened. I change my password roughly once every couple of weeks after reading about all the wow account hacks and i've never told anyone my a/c information. I've emailed blizzard and asked them what I can do. Waiting for a response. Sorry for going on but i'm incredibly angry. Had to vent :(

does sound like it mate,

Sorry to hear that.

Thats what they commonly do, sell all your gear or send it onto another toon to sell on.

zomg they sharded yur purplz

You probably want to virus scan your PC too, just in case there's a key logger floating around on it. Instead of emailing Blizzard it'd be quicker and you'd get a much better response if you open a GM ticket.

Can't believe some people are takign this so seriously, WoW I mean, that they hack other peoples accounts, such people must be banned to stop ruining the game for other people, and 2ndly, they should stop ''getting better'' in WoW and get a real life, as I imagine these hackers do nothing else but becoming better from hacking other people.

After reading in GD about the poor bloke who just lost his father this thread really puts things into perspective.

EDIT - That wasn't a dig at the OP, just a reflective comment.

Most people that get hacked arnt the target of some bored 14 year old kiddy unfortunatly, they are the target of the gold farmers who have to make a living via selling WoW gold, not that this makes it any more acceptable.

Keylogging can be easily avoided by just having some decent and up to date anti virus and spyware, along with using a web browser like Firefox instead of IE - which is much more vulnrable security wise.

Don't contact Blizz through email, they are crap and take ages to respond. Contact an in game master and he will get the case on the way. Unfortunately they will close your account immediately while the investigation takes place, but within a few days it will reopen and you will have your items back. If you have bought gold or had power levelling services done, then I wouldn’t bother contacting them as your account will get banned.

Sorry to hear that. The GMs will only replace you with your stuff once if I remember correctly. Change your password and secret question in the mean time :) I had to seriously battle with the GMs to get mine sorted and almost got suspended :p

once blizzard have been notified the 1st thing they tend to do is freeze your account while they begin an investigation as to where the items were sent etc. Dont expect to be using the account again anytime soon. 5-6 of my guild mates got hacked and were without for around 8-10 days!

The most common form of WoW hack is a key logger. The User Interface mods people download are the main source for these, from sites like curse-gaming and WorldofWar.

Its unlucky you got hit like this but there is very little you can do. As suggested go change your password and secret question while you still have access to the account and then I suggest running a full system virus scan and some anti-spyware like Spybot or ad-aware (or both :) )

i know its not much consilation but at least it was only a couple of hundred gold and not thousands like some people lose.

Edit: my spelling really is getting bad :(

My account never got froze and thankfully the guy only cleaned out one of my level 60's which wasn't my main at the time. I was talking to a GM and they said email support. I emailed support and they said it was in-game GMs that should sort this problem. I re-messaged a GM and they said email support. At this point I got annoyed and told him I already have and they pointed me to a GM. He said I had threaghtening behaviour towards him and that if I messaged another GM for this purpose I would get suspended. I screenshotted the convo and, once again, emailed support. They told me to message a GM (Maybe you understand why I got angry :p). So once again I did and thankfully this guy was understanding and he said he'd get my characters back to normal next morning.

As said it returned next day to be level 33. Level 33. God damn level 33. I just deleted him myself :o

I've been playing since release and ive never been hacked. I have no av software or spam blockers at all. Only thing i have is a router and firefox. I visit keygen/crack/warez sites often and i download a lot of software for erm testing purposes :p
Surf smart, thats all i want to say. Its usually entirely your own fault for such things happening. If something looks dodgy use your common sense and dont click it!

Make an ingame ticket, the GM's should be able to restore your character, they have done this in the past with guildmates of mine

rubbish, i had this done to me and the guy i got the acc from (a mate) had bought loads of gold

send a ticket ingame m8, u will get most back, but not all

When i used to play my account got hacked and they took over 4000g which I had farmed on my own so as I was quite annoyed. They never restored despite various e-mails and tickets. I quit after and haven't looked back

Obviously it's a bit like slamming the barn door when the horse has bolted, but also make sure you tick the box on the logon screen to remember your username (assuming this isn't a communal PC) so that you aren't typing it out every time you logon. This ensures that any keylogger won't have a username tied to the passwords it picks up.

I'm sure the GMs will try to help, though you might have to be persistent (firm but polite wins the day).
