...4 years after I quit the game! Found out via an email about a server & faction transfer purchase for a character I've never even heard of before. Looks like Chinese gold laundering.

Credit to Blizzard, after sending a ticket through the Battle.net website everything was sorted in less than 20 minutes. Can't fault that for CSR.

That's twice in 2 days I've had to contact support for 2 MMOs :p

A new account would cost about £40. So yes, it is worth it.

Anywho, glad you got it all sorted out :p. When I contacted customer support the other week when I forgot my WoW email address, they took five hours to reply telling me that I could change my email address under some account option. I wasn't pleased to say the least. However a quick five minute phone call to (free) account and billing support fixed the problem :D.
 
Had the same problem on my account, got the urge to start playing again to find my acc was banned. Contacted support and they told me why etc. Managed to get it all sorted, recovered in under 3 hours, which IMO was a good job on their part. That, and I had all the patches to install/download anyway, from pre-BC to Cata :D

Fired on the Battle.net authenticator, got the app on my phone, all sorted and never had any problems since! None of my characters were sold, or had any items stripped from them, although whether that was a restoration on Blizzards behalf I have no idea. Had tones of lv1 characters spread across a load of servers to delete though :p
 
Authenticator is a must. Now as well with the recovery code it's removed the one annoyance of what happens if you lost/reset your phone. Store the recovery number offline and hey presto you can get a working authenticator up and running from scratch in seconds.
 
I have that problem, I went to install Starcraft 2 with my old account but I sold the phone which had my authenticator and dunno what else to do. I have asaked them to remove it and I have to scan in my ID and send it to them which I am not sure about I might just make another account and forget I every played WoW lol
