There are many World of Warcraft lovers and many Avast antivirus users.

I am not sure how many are aware of this but Avast crashes WoW. i got between 0 - 7 crashes a night and its so annoying when your MTing a boss and you crash and wipe a 40 man raid lol.

Basically Avast scans your folders actively even while u play and when it gets to the WoW folder. Your PC crashes or just simple goes into a reboot. To solve this just turn off active scanning while playing wow. (may also help other game crashes too)

:) Enjoy and happy WoWing!

well there are 3 ppl in our guild that have WoW and avast, 2 of us crashed a lot and the 3rd only just started using it. We all dont crash in wow now.

I used to get a lot of WoW errors and closes and just reboots as if it was overheating. but its not overheating i check everything and leave the side of the case open anyways just incase as its a small case.

anyways i dont crash now and i had my first full night of non crashing wow last night. :D:D:D

Also i used to get freezes in CS and BF2, I believe thats when Avast is scanning the game directory so i will turn it off when playing any games now.

didnt fix it for me:( 2 days with only 1 semi crash then its all back again. sigh.
going to try and roll back to older GFX drivers and uninstall avast to double check. Then either format or test hardware like ram and stuff but either way its a long and boring process now :(

URGHGHGHGHGHGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but hmmm i only reboot in WoW (used to BSOD till i move the virtual memory to a seperate HD) BF2 closes down to desktop when i freeze so maybe its an overheat issue :S?

i have got to the problem :) nothing to do with avast. It was my GFX card over heating..

I have lowered the resolution of WoW to 1024x768.. and then just maximised it. I play in window mode and run a 17" TFT a step or two higher than 1024x768. This has given me 2 days of no crashes and im certain its that now.

now i dont have to buy a new pc to fix it (the lazy mans fix) and wait for conroe if thats gonna be any good :D

Funny you should say that, I've had similar troubles recently. I thought it was due to running the Climate Change program, iTunes, MSN, Firefox, and WoW simultaneously but thinking about it that shouldn't really be a huge amount for my PC. It would crash WoW, freeze with a weird repeated noise from the speakers and occasionally restart. I'll drop my settings down a bit and see how it goes, I didn't suspect the graphics card at all :o

MY wow would freeze and give a weird repreated noise too!!! omg I FEEL YOUR PAIN!!. Or sometimes its a straight reboot. I didnt suspect my gfx card either as its an x800 XT PE running at stock speeds. I'd cleaned the dust out of it and screwed the heatsinks down better as it wasnt quite down far enough. But it was still going. Ended up doing a system restore which didnt work as i moved the virtual memory cache around lolz.

But lowering res totally helped. Im not sure if its cuz of the last 2 patches but it was only recently.. i also turned down gfx settings to low on most.

I really hope it helps you, a fellow wower :)
