Just under two years ago I played WoW and had no issues whatsoever. I took a break from it and didnt play if up until the last week or so. During my break I had several emails from Blizzard saying account password change verification, I tried to log into my old account but with no luck.

I sent numerous emails telling the situation but nothing happend. This all started once they merged WoW account with this Battlenet thing. I cancelled my card details and various other things.

I now am back on WOW and created a new account. Last night I got another password change email. So this morning I went to battlenet website and tried to log in. No such luck. I tried to log into the game, same again. I them asked for a change of password and promtly got email (whihc I requested this time) I changed my password to somthing very strong..

I some one trying to hack accounts? Is it worth changing my email address too? Im a bit owrried about it.

I did log into the game and my toon is all there however on my 'manage games' section on BN I have the 10 day trial of TBC. I never asked for it. I have it because I purchased the battle chest but cant add it to the account as I used the cd key a few years back when I played it before.

Anything I can do to prevent this from happening again?
I will be contacting Blizzard about my CD key as I can take a photo and send it to them on a form of some sort.. but its the hacking of accounts thats annoying me..:(

I had those emails also when i turned my account back on recently, in the end I had to set a temp password and then a strong one like you did. Haven't had any problems since.

Did you double check all the "Account Verification" emails were definately from Blizzard and didn't inadvertantly click the link on a phishing mail and type in your account name and password?

It's my belief that since the Battlenet merge the number of spam emails has increased, due to the username of many people's battlenet account being the same email address they used to sign up to wow related sites and similar.

You should still be able to get your old account back, just email blizz with the cd-key used for the account and a scan of your drivers license with photo or passport.

I had to do a similar thing when i locked out my account with the iphone authenticator lol.

I never clciked on email link. I went direct to BN website today and changed password for my new account.

@Datamonkey I will sort out the old account if possible later today. Ill get all the stuff ready I need once I sort out some crap from work.

If you have an iphone I would strongly suggest an authenticator. Stops all this account hijacking rubbish. I learnt the hard way and I still cant figure out how they got the details. Something on my laptop perhaps = Hard Drive wipe.

Its worth recovering the account, but dont forget the authenticator!

I juts installed and added the Auth program. Works fine on the iphone. Not had chance to send off details to Blizzard yet regarding my old account though.

Hey up,

Guys if using the iphone app be sure to save the key for the authenticator app. as it was that the screwed me over for a week last time lol. I wiped my phone without making a note of the key, hence was unable to get into my battlenet.account

I aint played WoW for months, probably over a year, and just recieved some email from Blizz saying my WoW account (merged with Bnet account) has been permanently suspended due to online trading, so I try to log into my account and its asking for some 6-digit authentication code, even though I've never used one of those Authentication devices before - grrrr mad :F I'm wondering if I've been pwned by some keylogger, but I've never received any dodgy emails or clicked shifty looking related links since I stopped playing. I never really planned on going back to WoW, but this is still annoying none the less.

sounds like may have lost not only your wow account but your whole bnet account there skullman. Good luke getting it back

Quite probably. I havent had an active WoW account for years but I got an email like yours this week. However the email I got was blatantly obviously dodgy as the link you had to click on in the email was quite clearly not a blizzard address (it was something like www.world-of-warcraft-accounting.com or similar)

So I just ignored the email, I've also been getting scam emails lately for Aion, with the legitimate ncsoft account management address in the email...however when you hover the cursor over the address you can see that the actual address is clearly a scam address and they have just shown the link as the actual address.

My account password and details kept getting changed even though no one knew my username/password. I gave up and about every 2 months i'd get an email saying the account details had been changed. I hadn't replied to any phishing emails so I have no idea what the problem was caused by.
The last time I got my account details I was told it was my 'last chance' as the account had been linked with botters and spammers.
I'm pretty sure the problem is on Blizzards side. Not sure how similar it is but the actual game servers used to get hacked ALL the time by gold selling websites.

I haven't played WoW for a couple of years, but this last month I've been getting tons of spam emails through, obviously trying to scam me out of my old account.

Viewing the link locations reveal blatantly false URLs to Blizzard and Battlenet.

Same happened to me as the OP.

Stopped playing WoW ages ago, had emails recently about password reset, but didn't bother with them. After seeing Starcraft 2 vids I decided to sign up to Battle.net and thought I may as well merge my WoW account, only to find it had already been merged!

Only way they could have done it was to log into my email account after requesting a password reset.

Check this thread and run all the programs listed, might find some other viruses not related to WoW;

Helped me, although I'm still getting warnings from Blizzard that my account is being investigated for trying to be sold :S

Well

Says it all....... nothing is secure folks.

That being said I too had my accont hacked recently and again not been playing WoW for quite some time BUT I wanted to apply for SC2 beta so HAD to merge my account into Battlenet.

2 days later bingo WoW account hacked and lost everything (Blizzard prompty return it all tho).

:) dispite this I actually poked the WoW fourms and the hostility from people there IS shocking 'all your fault yadda yadda yadda' like most I dont visit dodgy sites, I never had zippo to do with Blizzard bar this merge via their website. Plus If i was keylogged why didnt my other MMO games get the same treatment.

90% of those warnings are scams that get your account stolen if you follow them.

Plus If i was keylogged why didnt my other MMO games get the same treatment.

It's not big money to steal other mmo accounts sadly, WoW's popularity works against it here :/

Aye the exact same thing has started happening to me. Not played the game in a year or so and i am getting absolutely spammed by "blizzard" emails. They seem to be coming almost daily now and they seem legit until you hover over the link to find its a completely different url to the one shown. It got me so worried i even checked my battlenet account but its safe :).
